USE CASE
AI content optimization,
so engines quote the page.
"AI content optimisation" gets used for two different things: using AI to improve your content, and improving your content so that AI engines quote it. We cover both here, though the second is the one that changes how you write. SEORCE audits a page for search and for AI answers, and writes each fix in your own voice.
What is AI content optimization?
AI content optimisation has two meanings. The first is using AI tools to improve existing content. The second is improving content so that AI answer engines can find it, understand it and quote it. The second matters more as buyers move to AI answers. In practice the two meet: a page is audited against what search engines and AI engines look for, and each weakness is rewritten, one issue at a time.
Key facts
- The term covers two things: using AI to improve content, and improving content so AI engines cite it
- Start with pages you already have. A page with rankings and links is a quicker win than a new one
- Pages are more likely to be quoted when they answer the question directly, back it with evidence and are easy to lift from
- Facts that sit inside images, tabs or scripts may never be read by an AI crawler
- A score before publishing is a guide. It is never a prediction of what an engine will do
- SEORCE audits a page by URL, pasted text, uploaded document or from your sitemap, and writes a before-and-after fix for each issue

Why a page that ranks still gets skipped by AI.
Plenty of pages do well in Google and never get quoted by an AI engine. It's rarely because the information is missing. More often the answer is buried in the fifth paragraph, or hedged, or sitting in a table that loads by script, so the engine lifts a cleaner version from someone else.
A page written only for rankings often has
- –A long introduction before the answer
- –Claims with no figure or source behind them
- –Key facts inside images, tabs or scripts
- –One long block covering several questions
A page engines can quote has
- ✓The answer stated plainly, near the top
- ✓Evidence an engine can point to
- ✓Facts in plain text in the HTML
- ✓Clear sections, with one question each
What makes a page quotable.
There are four checks, and each maps to a score, so you can watch the page improve as you go.
The page answers the question
An engine looks for a passage it can use. If the answer is spread across five paragraphs, it will take a tidier one from someone else.
- An answer near the topState it plainly in the first lines of the section, then expand.
- One question per sectionA heading that asks, and a section that answers.
- Passages that stand aloneEach answer should still make sense when it is lifted out of the page.
In today's fast-moving world of agency finance, there are many factors to weigh when billing clients abroad...Ledgerly invoices in 30 currencies and converts each invoice at the day's rate. There is something to cite
If a claim has nothing behind it, an engine has no reason to prefer your page over anyone else's.
- Figures and named sourcesNumbers, dates and where they came from.
- First-hand experienceWhat you have seen or done yourself, which a general source can't offer.
- Quick additionsContent Studio can add a stat, add an expert quote or improve E-E-A-T on a section.
A machine can lift it cleanly
Structure is how a crawler finds its way around a page. Good structure also makes the page easier for people.
- Headings in orderOne H1, then headings that outline the page.
- Facts in plain textKept out of images, tabs and scripts that some AI crawlers never run.
- Schema planned with the outlineContent Studio plans FAQPage, WebPage and BreadcrumbList markup as the page is built.
- Internal linksAdded from your project's sitemap.
It still sounds like you
Optimising for machines is no reason to sound like one. A page flattened into generic prose loses what made it worth quoting.
- Your brand voiceLearned from your documents, URLs and files, with tone you can adjust.
- Writer personasProfiles for the different people behind your content.
- One fix in one placeEach fix targets a single issue. The rest of the page stays as you wrote it.
How to optimise content for AI, in six steps.
It works best on a page that's tied to a buyer question you're already losing. That way you'll know whether the changes did anything.
Pick the pages worth fixing
Start with pages tied to buyer questions you lose, and with your weakest-scoring pages.
Optimise content →Audit for search and for AI answers
Score the page on both, and list every issue by severity.
Content score →Free: GEO-friendly content checker →See what engines quote today
For the same question, look at the sources engines use. They show you what a quotable answer looks like.
Citation tracking →Find what the page lacks
A missing answer, missing evidence or poor structure. Usually one of them is doing most of the damage.
Prompt diagnosis →Fix one issue at a time
Accept the fix, edit it by hand or ask for another version. Leave the rest of the page alone.
GEO content →Check whether engines now quote it
Keep the question running in your tracking, and watch the page's positions as well.
AI Beacon →Check one page's structure, free.
Structure is the easiest of the four checks to test without an account. Paste a page's text into the GEO-friendly content checker, or open the page with the extension, and you'll see what a machine sees.
Six numbers: four before, two after.
The first four you can move before you publish. The last two tell you what the engines and Google made of it.
| Metric | Check it counts | What it tells you | Read it with care |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intent score | The answer | Whether the page gives the searcher what they came for. | A good score on the wrong question helps nobody. Check the question first. |
| E-E-A-T score | The evidence | Signs of experience, expertise and trust on the page. | Evidence has to be true. Invented figures do more harm than none. |
| GEO score | The structure | How ready the page is to be used in AI answers. | It is a guide, never a prediction. |
| Issues open, by severity | All four | How much is left to fix, and how serious it is. | Clear the critical ones first. Minor issues rarely decide anything. |
| Citation rate for the page | Outcome | How often engines use this page as a source. | Changes take weeks to show, and vary by engine. |
| Positions for the page | Outcome | Where the page ranks in search after the edit. | Edits can move rankings either way. Watch both numbers. |
A pricing page, audited and fixed.
Ledgerly is our demo account, a B2B accounting tool for agencies. Ledgerly's pricing page ranked well and was never quoted in an AI answer. The team ran it through an audit.
Billing clients abroad involves many considerations that agencies should weigh carefully...Ledgerly invoices in 30 currencies and converts each invoice at the day's rate. The page was chosen for a reason
It was the page engines consulted, and never cited, on a question Ledgerly kept losing.
The audit found 14 issues
Three were critical. The overall score was 58.
Engines were quoting a rival's guide
That guide answered the question in its first two sentences.
The facts were there, unstated
Multi-currency support was mentioned in a table that loaded by script, and nowhere in the text.
Eleven fixes accepted, three edited
Each fix changed one passage. The table went to a developer to move into the HTML.
The question keeps running
AI Beacon shows whether engines start citing the page. Rank Tracker follows its positions.
The projected score is the one Content Studio shows as fixes are accepted. No citation result is shown, because nobody controls what an engine quotes.
Audit the page. Fix it where it stands.
Being told a page scores 58 isn't much help by itself. Content Studio shows you each issue where it sits on the page, writes a fix in your voice, and leaves you to accept it, edit it or ask for another go.
The 7 AI engines are ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek and Llama.
Every module talks to the others.
A page that isn't quoted can have more than one thing wrong with it. The words may be weak, the crawler may be missing half the page, or a rival's page may simply be the trusted source.
Those are separate checks, done by separate SEORCE modules, on one project. So when a page still isn't quoted after you've fixed the words, you can look at what the crawler saw, or at which sources the engine preferred.

AI content optimisation is improving content so that AI answer engines can find it, understand it and quote it. The term is also used for using AI tools to improve existing content. The two usually happen together.
Both. People use the phrase for either. This guide leads with optimising for AI answers, because that is the part that changes how a page should be written.
The foundations are shared. AI content optimisation puts more weight on direct answers, evidence and passages that stand alone. The SEO content optimization guide covers the search side.
A direct answer near the top, evidence behind each claim, clear headings and facts written in plain text. Pages from sources an engine already trusts on the subject are used more readily.
No. Fix the specific weaknesses. In Content Studio each fix targets one issue in one place, and the rest of the page stays as you wrote it.
Pages tied to a buyer question you are losing, and your lowest-scoring pages. The From Sitemap view lists your indexed pages with their current scores, so the weakest are easy to find.
A live page by URL, pasted HTML, Markdown or plain text, an uploaded .docx, .pdf, .txt, .md or .html file, or any indexed page from your project's sitemap.
How ready an article is to be used in AI answers. It is one of five scores on every article, beside SEO, readability, E-E-A-T and intent.
No. The score shows where the page stands on the things you control. Whether engines quote it is something AI Beacon shows you afterwards.
Usually not. The changes that help with AI answers, such as direct answers and clear structure, tend to help in search too. Watch the page's positions after any edit all the same.
No. Content Studio learns your brand voice from your own documents, URLs and files, and writes fixes in it. You can edit any fix by hand before accepting it.
