Frequently asked questions
What is FAQPage schema?
Schema.org markup that identifies Q&A content on a page. Qualifies for FAQ rich results in Google (expandable Q&A snippets below the title).
Did Google remove FAQ rich results?
Google reduced FAQ rich result display in 2023 for most sites, keeping them for government and health domains. Markup is still parsed and feeds AI engines.
Is FAQ schema worth adding then?
Yes. AI engines (Perplexity, ChatGPT) parse FAQ schema for direct citation. Markup future-proofs you if Google re-expands display.
How many Q&A pairs minimum?
Google rich result requires 2 minimum. For AI engine citation value, 6 to 10 is a good baseline.
Can questions include HTML?
The question text must be plain text. Answers can contain basic HTML (p, strong, a).
Should questions mirror actual search queries?
Yes. Use real questions people search. The Content Brief Generator surfaces common questions from SERPs.
Can I have duplicate questions on different pages?
Each FAQPage block should be unique to that page's topic. Repeating identical FAQs sitewide is a flag for low-quality template content.
What is the mainEntity property?
The array of Question objects in a FAQPage. Each Question has a name (the question) and acceptedAnswer (the answer).
Can one page have multiple FAQPage blocks?
Technically yes but Google prefers one FAQPage per page with all questions in mainEntity.
What is a HowTo vs FAQ?
FAQ is Q&A format. HowTo is step-by-step. Different schemas with different rich result eligibility. See the HowTo generator.
How is this different from writing FAQs in a Google Doc?
The schema is the machine-readable structured representation. Google reads it, AI engines read it, screen readers can read it. Your Google Doc stays private.
