USE CASE
AI visibility tracking,
down to the source.
See when ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI answers name your brand, what they say about you, and who they recommend in your place. SEORCE also shows the exact page, thread or video behind each answer, so you know what to change.
What is AI visibility tracking?
AI visibility tracking is the regular monitoring of how a brand appears in AI answer engines when people ask questions relevant to it. It measures four things in each answer: whether the brand is mentioned, which sources are cited, how the brand is described, and which competitors are recommended. Because the same question can produce a different answer each time, tracking repeats across prompts, engines and time, and reports the trend.
Key facts
- It measures your presence inside the answer itself, which a rank tracker cannot see
- Four signals are observed in every answer: mentions, citations, sentiment and competitors
- A signal is what you observe. A metric, such as mention rate or citation rate, is how you count it
- Answers vary between runs and between engines, so a single check proves very little
- A mention and a citation are different things. An engine can name you without linking to you, and use your page without naming you
- Scores depend on the prompts you track, so they only compare fairly within one prompt set
- SEORCE tracks 7 AI engines + Google AI Overview, AI Mode & Search, and shows the specific page, thread or video behind each answer

Rankings look fine. The answer names a rival.
Buyers now ask an assistant and get one answer with a few brands in it. Your rank tracker has nothing to say about that answer. You can hold position one in Google and still be missing from it.
A rank tracker tells you
- –Where your page sits in a list of links
- –One position for each keyword
- –Which of your pages holds that position
- –Nothing about what an AI answer says
AI visibility tracking tells you
- ✓Whether the answer names your brand at all
- ✓What it says about you, and how favourably
- ✓Which sources the engine read to write it
- ✓Which competitors it recommended in your place
You need both. AI engines that search the web draw on pages that rank, which is why SEORCE tracks classic search and AI answers side by side.
Four signals show where you stand.
You can observe all four in any AI answer. The rest of this page, the metrics included, is about counting them or acting on them.
Your brand in the answer
If the answer doesn't name you, the buyer never hears about you, whatever your rankings say. So this is the first thing to check.
- Checked prompt by promptEach buyer question is tracked on its own, so you see exactly where you appear and where you don't.
- Split by engineChatGPT may name you where Gemini leaves you out. Each engine is reported separately.
- Summed up in a Visibility ScoreOne number for your project, built from your own prompt runs, so you can follow the trend.
The sources the engine used
AI answers are built from pages the engine reads. Knowing which ones tells you what to fix and where you need to be present.
- The exact sourceThe specific page, Reddit thread or YouTube video behind the answer. A domain name alone doesn't tell you what to do next.
- Cited, or only consultedSEORCE separates the sources an engine credited in its answer from the ones it read without crediting.
- Your pages and everyone else'sSee which of your URLs get used, and which third-party pages shape the answer.
What it says about you
An answer can mention you and still steer the buyer towards someone else, so being named isn't the end of it.
- A score from 0 to 100Answers that mention you are scored, so you can follow sentiment as a number over time.
- The story behind the scoreRead how engines describe you: the strengths they repeat and the doubts they raise.
The brands recommended in your place
Every answer that leaves you out names someone. That list is your competitive set in AI search, and it can differ from the rivals you watch in Google.
- Who appears on your promptsThe brands named beside you, or in your place, on each tracked question.
- The sources behind their mentionsSee which pages earn competitors their place, so you know what you're up against.
How to track AI visibility, in six steps.
The method is the same whatever tool you use. You can run it by hand for a few prompts. Past that, the repetition is what makes software worth having. The first three steps tell you where you stand. The last three change it.
Set the brand and the questions
List your brand name, product names and the ways people misspell them, plus the competitors you expect to be compared with. Then collect buyer questions for every stage, from "what is this" to "which one should I choose".
Entity mapping →Prompt coverage →Ask each engine, more than once
Run every prompt on every engine, on a schedule. Record the four signals each time. Answers change between runs, so judge the pattern and never one reply.
AI Beacon →Follow each answer to its sources
Find the pages, threads and videos the engine used, and note which it credited. A source tells you far more than a score does.
Citation tracking →Work out why you lost the prompt
The usual causes are few. Your page doesn't answer the question, the engine can't read it, the sources it trusts don't mention you, or it is unsure who you are.
Prompt diagnosis →Change the page or the source
Rewrite the page so it answers the question. Fix what stops engines reading it. Earn a place in the sources they rely on.
GEO content →AutoFix →Run it again and check the traffic
Keep the same prompts running on the same engines, against the baseline you recorded first. Then look at whether visits from AI sources follow.
Attribution →Two checks worth running before you track anything.
Tracking tells you whether AI names you. These tell you whether it could: one shows which AI crawlers visit your site, the other whether the public knowledge bases know your brand.
Six numbers to report, and how to read them.
A signal is something you observe in one answer, and a metric is how you count it across many. These six are the ones most teams settle on. All of them are useful, and all of them can mislead if you read them alone.
| Metric | Signal it counts | What it tells you | Read it with care |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mention rate | Mentions | The share of tracked answers that name your brand.answers that name you ÷ tracked answers | It depends on which prompts you track. Change the prompts and the rate changes. |
| Visibility score | Mentions | One number that sums up your presence across tracked answers.calculated differently by every tool | Every tool calculates it differently. Follow your own trend over time. |
| Prompt coverage | Mentions | Which buyer stages you appear in, from learning to choosing.prompts you are named on ÷ prompts tracked, by stage | You can be named on "what is" questions and missing on "which should I buy". |
| Citation rate | Citations | The share of answers that used one of your pages as a source.answers citing your pages ÷ tracked answers | A page can be read without being credited. Count cited and consulted separately. |
| Sentiment | Sentiment | How favourably answers describe you. SEORCE scores it from 0 to 100.average score of the answers that mention you | A high score on very few mentions means little. Read it beside mention rate. |
| Share of voice | Competitors | Your mentions set against competitors' on the same prompts.your mentions ÷ all brand mentions on the same prompts | Only fair when every brand is measured on the same prompt set. |
No formula is given for a visibility score, because every tool builds its own. In SEORCE, the Visibility Score is calculated from the prompt runs in your own project. Use it to follow your trend. It was never meant as a benchmark against other projects or other tools.
One lost prompt, from finding to fix.
Ledgerly is our demo account, a B2B accounting tool for agencies. Here is one buyer question going through all six steps.
For agencies billing clients abroad, Quillbook is a common pick because it invoices in several currencies and converts at the day's rate. Norvo suits smaller teams that want time tracking in the same tool.
Other options exist for simple domestic billing, though they are mentioned less often for international work.
The question was on the list
"Best invoicing software for an agency with overseas clients" came from sales calls. It sits at the choosing stage, where a missing mention costs most.
Missing where it matters
Over ten runs, Ledgerly was named once on ChatGPT, never on Gemini and eight times on Perplexity. That count became the baseline.
Two sources carried the answer
A competitor's multi-currency guide and a Reddit thread were cited. Ledgerly's pricing page was consulted and never credited.
Read, but nothing to quote
The page never mentions multi-currency invoicing. Link Impact Score also showed that few of Ledgerly's linking domains carry Citation Potential.
The page now answers it
A multi-currency section was written in Content Studio. AutoFix added the schema the page was missing. Two high Citation Potential domains went on the outreach list.
The next runs decide
The same prompt keeps running. Each new set of ten runs is set against the baseline of 1, 0 and 8, and Web Analytics shows whether AI visits to the page follow.
No result is shown here on purpose. A demo number would read as a promise, and how fast an answer changes depends on the engine and the cause.
Tracking shows the gap. One platform closes it.
Tracking tells you what is happening. Diagnosis tells you why. Stopping there leaves the work unfinished. Someone still has to change the page and prove it worked. In SEORCE all six steps happen in one place, on the same data.
Prompt figure from SEORCE's own data, as of October 2026: 33.9M prompts on ChatGPT and 407.5M on Google AI Overviews. The 7 AI engines are ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek and Llama.
Every module talks to the others.
A lost prompt is rarely one team's problem. The cause can be a page that needs rewriting, a technical fault that hides it, a source you have no link from, or a competitor who answered first.
In SEORCE those all sit in one project. Prompts and keywords connect to backlinks, backlinks to technical issues, issues to fixes, and fixes to the traffic that follows. What AI Beacon finds is already there when you open any other module.
Ask SEORCE sits on top. It is your AI agent, in the app and on WhatsApp. Ask it a question in plain language and it answers from your project's data, so nobody has to build a report first.

SEO, AI citations, or both.
A link can lift your rankings and do nothing for AI answers. Another can do the reverse. Link Impact Score tells the two apart, so you know which links are working and for what.
- A score from 0 to 100 for every linking domainWeighed across six signals: domain authority, link count, follow ratio, first-link rate, spam exposure and Citation Potential.
- Citation Potential, scored separatelySEORCE's estimate of how likely a domain is to be referenced by AI engines. It is an estimate, never a promise of a specific citation.
- The priority zoneWhere a high score and high Citation Potential overlap. A link from one of these domains helps your rankings and your odds of being cited.
- Predicted here, observed in AI BeaconCitation Potential says where a citation is likely. AI Beacon shows whether it happened.
Link data comes from SEORCE's live index: 7.5 trillion pages discovered, 724.0 million root domains and 44.7 trillion links. Figures as reported by SEORCE, September 2026.
Every engine answers differently. Track each one.
Engines use different indexes and different ways of finding sources. Some browse the web live and others rely on what they already hold. Leading on one and missing on the next is normal. SEORCE runs your prompts on the engines themselves and reports each one separately.

AI visibility tracking checks, on a schedule, how AI answer engines respond to the questions your buyers ask. It records whether your brand is named, what is said about it, which sources the engine used and which competitors appear in your place.
Rank tracking reports where your page sits in a list of links for a keyword. AI visibility tracking reads the full answer an engine gives to a question and reports whether your brand is in it. There are no fixed positions, and the same question can return a different answer on the next run.
7 AI engines + Google AI Overview, AI Mode & Search. The 7 AI engines are ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek and Llama.
A mention is your brand named in the text of the answer. A citation is one of your pages used as a source. They move separately. An engine can recommend you without linking to you, and it can use your page without naming you.
Cited sources are the ones an engine credits in its answer. Consulted sources are pages it read while preparing the answer without crediting them. Citation tracking in SEORCE reports both, down to the specific page, thread or video.
AI engines write each answer afresh, and many search the web as they do it. The brands named and the sources can both shift between runs. That is why tracking repeats each prompt and reports the pattern over time.
For most companies, tens. You need enough to cover the questions buyers ask at each stage: learning about the category, comparing options and choosing one. A focused set, run consistently, tells you more than a large one.
No. A visibility score depends on the prompts tracked and on how each tool calculates it. In SEORCE the score is built from the prompt runs in your own project, so use it to follow your own trend.
On a scale of 0 to 100. SEORCE scores the answers that mention your brand, and shows how engines describe you, so you can read the story behind the number.
Yes. SEORCE has a free forever plan, with no card needed. Web Analytics, which shows visits from AI sources, is free on every plan.
No, not by itself. Tracking shows which prompts you lose and which sources shaped the answer. The improvement comes from acting on that, and prompt diagnosis is where that work starts.
An AI visibility score is a single number that sums up how present a brand is across a set of tracked AI answers. Tools build it in different ways, so the same brand can score differently in each. In SEORCE the Visibility Score is calculated from the prompt runs in your own project.
It starts with counting. Each tracked prompt is run on each engine, and every answer is checked for the brand. The share of answers that name the brand is the mention rate. Every other metric on this page is built on that count.
AI citation rate is the share of tracked answers that used one of your pages as a source. It is separate from mention rate, because an engine can use your page without naming your brand.
Yes. An engine can draw on your page as a source and never name your brand in the answer. The reverse also happens: you are recommended by name with no link to your site. That is why mentions and citations are tracked separately.
Regularly, and at the same interval each time, so results can be compared. A single check tells you very little. Fast-moving categories and product launches justify more frequent runs.
Run the same prompts on each engine over the same period, then compare the results engine by engine. Averaging them into one number first hides the gaps, and the gaps are where the useful findings are.
Weeks more often than days, and it varies by engine and by cause. Engines that browse the web live can pick up a change within days. Those that rely on a periodically refreshed index take longer. Record a baseline before you change anything, so the comparison holds.
Link Impact Score is SEORCE's own score from 0 to 100 for every domain linking to your site. One of its six inputs is Citation Potential, an estimate of how likely that domain is to be referenced by AI engines. Together they show whether a link is helping your rankings, your AI citations, or both.
Ask SEORCE is SEORCE's AI agent, currently in beta. It works in the app and on WhatsApp, and answers plain-language questions from your project's data, across every module. It is included for every user, with no usage limit. To use it on WhatsApp, link your number and text Hi to +1 (363) 200-3169.
No tool can. SEORCE shows where you stand, why, and what to change, then measures what happened after you changed it.
Partly. The free AI crawler log analyser shows which AI bots visit your site, and the browser extension audits any page you have open. Tracking what engines say needs repeated runs, which is what the free forever plan is for.
