XML Sitemap Generator
Paste a list of URLs. Generate a sitemap.xml with optional lastmod, changefreq, and priority. For large sites (10k+ URLs), the tool automatically produces multiple sitemaps + a sitemap-index.
Technical SEO Intelligence
Google's sitemap limit: 50,000 URLs per file, 50MB uncompressed.
Hit either limit and the sitemap is silently rejected. For enterprise sites, split by content type (products, articles, categories) with a sitemap-index referencing each sub-sitemap. This tool auto-splits large lists into chunks of 50,000.

Frequently asked questions
What URLs should be in the sitemap?
Every indexable URL on the site. Exclude paginated series after page 1, filter variants, admin URLs, and anything noindex.
What is the max URLs per sitemap file?
50,000 URLs or 50MB uncompressed. Beyond that, use a sitemap index with multiple sub-sitemaps.
Should I include lastmod?
Yes if your CMS can produce accurate dates. Lastmod helps Google prioritise recrawls. Wrong lastmod is ignored.
Do I need priority and changefreq?
Google ignores them. Bing partially honours. Not worth maintaining.
Where do I submit the sitemap?
Google Search Console and Sitemaps. Bing Webmaster Tools. Also reference it in robots.txt.
How often does Google recrawl the sitemap?
Daily to weekly for established sites. Changes are picked up within 48 hours typically.
Should media files go in a sitemap?
Separate sitemaps for images and videos work best. See video-sitemap and image-sitemap formats.
Can I submit a sitemap at a non-root location?
Yes. Reference the exact URL in robots.txt and Search Console. No requirement to live at /sitemap.xml.
Does the tool handle 100k+ URLs?
Yes. It auto-splits into sitemap-index with child sitemaps of 50k each.
What about hreflang in sitemaps?
Google supports hreflang via
<xhtml:link> entries in sitemap XML. Preferable at scale over head tags. Can sitemap URLs be relative?
No. All URLs must be absolute and match the exact scheme (https) and host of the sitemap file.
