MX Record Checker

Enter any domain and see all MX records with priority order, identify the mail provider (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Zoho, ProtonMail, Mimecast, Fastmail, etc.), and spot the common setup mistakes.
Email Deliverability Intelligence
MX records tell you who hosts the mail: and MX misconfiguration bounces every message.
One MX record pointing at a disabled server, a forgotten MX from a migrated provider, or wrong priority order (lowest number wins) are the three most common MX bugs. This tool fetches the live records via DNS-over-HTTPS and identifies the provider from pattern matching.

MX is the foundation. SPF, DKIM, DMARC are the stack.
Mail arrives at your MX: but if SPF/DKIM/DMARC aren't set up, outbound mail from your domain gets flagged as spam.
Frequently asked questions
What is an MX record?
Mail eXchanger. DNS record telling the internet where to deliver email for a domain.
Why check MX records?
Confirm email provider, troubleshoot delivery, verify a lead's mail setup, or identify the provider behind an unknown domain.
What does the tool identify?
The mail provider from the MX hostname pattern: Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Zoho, FastMail, iCloud, custom.
What is MX priority?
Lower number = higher priority. Mail goes to the lowest-priority server first; fallback to higher if unavailable.
How many MX records should a domain have?
2 to 5 is typical. One is risky (single point of failure). Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 configurations ship with 5.
What if a domain has no MX record?
Email delivery falls back to the A record of the domain. Rarely intentional. Usually indicates misconfiguration.
Can I tell Office 365 from Exchange on-prem?
Yes. Office 365 MX follows <domain>.mail.protection.outlook.com. On-prem Exchange uses the organisation's own mail server names.
What is the "null MX" record?
MX 0 ".". Signals the domain doesn't accept email. Used for domains that should never receive mail.
Does MX affect email sending or only receiving?
Only receiving. Outbound sending uses the sender's own configuration.
How often do MX records change?
Rarely once set. Changes usually mean provider migration (Google and Microsoft, for example).
Can one domain use multiple email providers?
Not for the same mailbox namespace. Different subdomains can route to different providers.
