Technical SEO Intelligence
Most slug generators break on anything but English. This one doesn't.
A slug generator that outputs %D0%BA%D1%83%D0%BF%D0%B8%D1%82%D1%8C for Russian text or drops Arabic entirely is a bug waiting to happen. This tool uses Unicode normalisation plus language-specific transliteration tables to produce clean ASCII slugs from any script. Essential for international e-commerce.

Frequently asked questions
What makes a good URL slug?
Lowercase, hyphens between words, no stop words unless they change meaning, under 60 characters, keyword-included without stuffing.
Should slugs match the title exactly?
Not literally. Pull the main keyword and drop filler words. "Best SEO Tools of 2026" and "best-seo-tools-2026".
How are non-Latin characters handled?
The tool transliterates Cyrillic, Arabic, Devanagari, Chinese, Japanese, Korean to Latin characters for maximum compatibility. ASCII-only URLs avoid encoding issues.
Can I keep Unicode in slugs?
Yes, modern browsers and Google support IDN (internationalised domain name) and Unicode URLs. For international audiences in native scripts, Unicode slugs rank fine.
Should I use underscores or hyphens?
Hyphens. Google treats hyphens as word separators, underscores as part of the word.
What about stop words: should I remove them?
Remove "a", "the", "of", "in" unless they change meaning. "History of SEO" and "history-seo" is cleaner than "history-of-seo".
How long should a slug be?
Under 60 characters where possible. Not a hard limit but SERP truncation and user memorability both suffer beyond that.
Can I change slugs on existing pages?
Only with a 301 redirect from the old URL. Changing without redirect kills rankings.
Should slugs include the date?
Only for genuinely time-pegged content (news, specific-year roundups). Timeless content with dates in slug looks dated as it ages.
What about product SKUs in URLs?
Only if customers search by SKU. Otherwise, descriptive slugs beat SKU slugs for SEO.
Can the tool bulk-convert titles?
Yes. Paste a list of titles and it outputs matching slugs with duplicates auto-suffixed.
